The indie rocker moved to Brooklyn with his high school sweetheart one year later, and after another whirlwind year and a half of touring, he released "Salad Days."ĭeMarco wrote, recorded and mixed "Salad Days" in his apartment by himself - playing all of the instruments, as well - in just one month. Since then, DeMarco's following has grown too large for the outsider festivals and small stages that once held him. Later that year, he released his full-length debut, "2." But it wasn't until he released "Rock and Roll Nightclub," an EP recorded under his own name in early 2012, that people started to take notice. But now we've gotten a little more used to it, and it's great."ĭeMarco played in several high school bands and recorded an EP under the name Makeout Videotape in 2009. Not nerve-racking in a bad way, but just kind of terrifying. "So when the rooms first started getting bigger, it was a little nerve-racking. I'm just doing what I like to do,' says the 23-year-old, who plays two sold-out shows at the Great American Music Hall this week and returns to San Francisco to headline the Fillmore in November. 
"I never really set a goal or had expectations. DeMarco has that charming, nonchalant shrug-and-keep-going attitude of, well, someone his very age.
